When will I get paid?

You have a choice of when you’ll receive pay. Most people prefer “same day pay” because they’re picking up an extra shift or two to make money now. To do this, all you need is to provide a debit or credit card when signing up and payments will be made directly to that account. There is a small fee associated with same-day pay, usually around 1.5% of the payment amount (this doesn’t go to us, it goes to the credit card processor). For most assignments, this works out to be somewhere between $0.50 & $2.00.

Alternatively, you may elect to receive payments in a more “traditional” manner. In this case, you can elect the weekly pay option. In this case, payments are made in “batches”, so the week would end on a Friday, and payments would show up as a direct deposit to your bank a few days later (depending on bank rules). Some banks may charge a fee for direct deposits, so check with your bank if this is an option you prefer. Also, we have no control over bank holds or timing of their deposits, but GapNurse processes payments weekly on Friday via direct deposit to the bank account you provide during the setup process.

Will I be reimbursed for mileage, parking, or tolls?

As an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own expenses. However, facility mangers who are making offers to you are strongly encouraged to provide you reimbursement for these expenses. It’s a competitive world and you have multiple work opportunities through the GapNurse app, so you can select from those assignments that offer reimbursements for these expenses and those that do not.

Will I receive any sort of identification from GapNurse so facility managers know who I am?

Prior to your arrival, facility managers will receive a copy of the photo you uploaded during the setup process. However, once you’ve completed a few assignments, you can expect to receive identification in the mail that includes a personal code identifying you as a GapNurse contractor. If at any time you decide that the program isn’t for you any more, of if you’ve mistakenly misplaced your ID, than simply let us know and we can deactivate the ID you’ve received in the mail, and we can either reissue another ID or cancel it at your request.

Is there anything I need to bring or special clothes I need to wear?

As an independent contractor, you can bring anything that helps you in performing your assignments. However, we do suggest scrubs as they’re loose fitting, comfortable and easy to clean. With that said, you’re the boss, so dress according to how you wish to be seen.

Can another person come with me to an assignment?

It will probably be a HIPAA violation for someone, other than the assigned caregiver to participate in your assigned duties. Assume the answer is always no, unless the facility manager who’s offered the assignment specifies otherwise.

I accepted an offer. Where do I go from here?

The GapNurse app will guide you through the process step-by-step. If you’re assigned to a specific facility, the app will guide you to the facility address. In other instances, you may be assigned to care for an individual in their own home (eg. Home Health or Hospice). For these assignments, you’ll be guided by a GPS map to the person’s residence and from there, you’ll have an opportunity to indicate you’ve arrived followed by step-by-step directions on what to do.

What should I do if I have a question about an assignment while I'm on the road?

In the app, tap Help to call your Assignment Supervisor. If you don’t receive an immediate answer, you’ll receive a call back shortly. Any “downtime” you experience in waiting, has been factored into your hourly pay rate, so kick back, relax and you’ll hear from your Supervisor very shortly. If for any reason, time passes, and you still haven’t heard back (things happen) than you can also feel free to contact GapNurse directly from the app and we’ll escalate things to “Code Red” status. We’ll get through this together.

What should I do if I’m at an assignment and I need supplies that aren’t there?

It is the Assignment Supervisor/Case Manager who’s responsible for making sure that all necessary supplies are always on site when needed, but of course, this is healthcare, so expect the unexpected, right? Before beginning your assignment,be sure to check the assignment notes to see what supplies you’ll need. If you find that you’re short on something, simply contact your Assignment Supervisor through the app and let them know what’s going on. They’ll be able to talk you through the situation or make arrangements to get urgent supplies to the site quickly.
